Life, work and teachings
Starlight Devi is a Mother of Unconditional Love and Compassion. Such a being is rare in the modern world, although the concept is not unknown in the East, especially in India, where there is a tradition of avatars going back several thousand years. Krishna, Saraswati, Brahma, Vishnu, were all considered avatars, and over the last one hundred years, Ramana of Arunachala, AnandamayiMa, Rama Krishna, Sri Yukteswar and of course Sai Baba as well as Sri Aurobindo and Sweet Mother. In the West however, we do not have such a tradition, the nearest being saints of the calibre of Francis of Assisi and Clare of Montefalco, the latter, whose body lies uncorrupted in Italy after 700 years, still has the power to perform miracles for those who visit her. In fact both St. Francis and St. Clare of Montefalco were indeed avatars as was The Lord Jesus Christ (apart from, in his case, being a Messiah as well) and in the spirit of this tradition Starlight can also perform miracles and hear the voice of God. Indeed, many people have attested to feeling not only her great power but also the presence of the Almighty with her.
Starlight (whose full title is Holy Mother Starlight Devi which she doesn’t use, considering it too much of a mouthful especially as Devi means Divine Mother, which, she feels, is enough in itself), also works in a similar way to the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus was not just a spiritual teacher but a healer as well and Starlight is also both.
She says, ‘nearly all illness is soul sickness. In other words we make ourselves ill by the way we react to situations; by our desires and mostly by our lack of inner peace. By working with people on an individual basis, either in person or by phone, I can readily understand the cause of their problems. Most solutions involve understanding the self and making a change of perspective. This can be achieved by many methods such as meditation, natural medicine, healing and knowing our former incarnations.’ She goes on to say,
'few people realise just what an impact past lives make on our everyday lives. Our tastes in food and fashion, fears, phobias and, probably most important of all, our relationships. We often incarnate as a group, although the relationships may change and this, coupled with karma, often makes for friction or for people being attracted to many members of the opposite sex all of whom may have been husbands or wives from previous incarnations.
To this end, Holy Mother has a whole site dedicated to reincarnation with explanations of how past lives affect us and with many case histories.

Although most beings of Starlight’s spiritual stature live in ashrams in India and often wear robes, Starlight lives in the West, in an ordinary house (which in actuality is too small for her, isn’t hers and which, because of its size, only allows Starlight to see one person at a time with nowhere for anyone else to wait). She wears everyday clothes, does her own shopping and many of the people she greets everyday, including her neighbours, have no idea who she truly is. This, Starlight says, ‘suits her fine.’ Her own natural humility means that she shuns the limelight. In fact, many people who come to see her have no idea who she is and simply think she is a homoeopath, one of the many therapies she practices, and Starlight does not enlighten them further. This is because few people understand the concept of an avatar. Indeed, being faced by someone who can hear the voice of God must be frightening for many people, whilst others just simply would not accept it. Therefore by only helping people who understand and accept her as an avatar would mean leaving out a whole section of the population. Because of this, in the past, many people have felt that their problems were too small to bother her with, ‘but’ she says, ‘if they are troubled by something and it is affecting their life, than it is not a little problem, whether it is children with ADHD who are screaming the place down from morning till night or a sore throat that has hardly gone away in 5 years.’ To this end, Starlight writes many self-help books on natural medicine which also contain philosophical truths, but nothing so drastic as to put people off! She also treats people who feel there is no hope as in the case of those with terminal illnesses. Her homoeopathic site,
www.homoeopathyquick.co.uk contains many free articles on health as well as details of her self-help books. To see Starlight one does not have to be on the spiritual path, one just needs to be suffering. When you speak to her and explain your problems she will know instantly what level you have reached on the spiritual path: whether you are an old soul or a young one and how much karma you carry. Her suggested treatment and the whole way she interacts with you will depend on your own level of understanding. She will never force her beliefs on you neither is she judgmental and will always support you no matter what you have done in this life or the past.
Starlight says, ‘when we have gone against Divine Law, have committed murder or some other grievous act, that is between you and God, it is nothing to do with me, I am only here to steer you onto the right path and advise you how best to mitigate your karma or to proceed spiritually.’
Starlight’s training has been very long and hard, consisting mainly of many hours of meditation which she embarked on before the age of 20. Although born clairvoyant, her visions were mostly of denizens from the dark realms come to terrify her enough to distract her from the spiritual path. Unlike the majority of spiritual beings of her calibre who are born in full consciousness, Starlight chose not to as she felt that having to train from scratch would give her greater insight into the sufferings of humanity and help her to advise others on the spiritual path. The result of this was her book, Soul Journey: The Spirit of the Dove. Always humble, she kept on meditating and purifying her nature without the realisation of where it would finally lead her. She became an avatar in August 1994 and gave her first Darshan. Darshan is a combined healing and blessing service which is hardly seen outside of India, yet many people must have heard of it as it is mentioned in Rumer Goden’s book, 'The Greengage Summer', published in 1953.
‘Another Eastern idea of which father had told us was the taking of ‘Darshan’, that even to look on anyone good or great would feed the soul.’
Nowadays Starlight does not hold regular Darshans nor do a group unless requested. Just a touch when people come to see her is enough.
Starlight has suffered many deprivations not to mention physical, psychological and sexual abuse, lost her home and its entire contents, been on the street and lived in a refuge. Having been both widowed and divorced, she has brought up two children, one of which is at university and the other starts next year, without help from her family who disowned her due to her spiritual aspirations. These aspirations started from a very early age when she understood that God was the only Reality and becoming close to Him was all she wanted. She says that she always remembered this happening when she was about 4 years old but that the Almighty told her some time ago that she was in fact only 3.
Her feelings towards a spiritual life coupled with her belief that Jesus was the Messiah did not go down well with her Jewish parents whose sole aim was to make her life a misery by denying her the opportunity to do anything that would advance her academically, creatively or spiritually, yet such hardship makes her ideally suited to help people from all walks of life. Starlight knows what it is like to go hungry, to wear second hand clothes and shoes, to lose everything one possesses and to be penniless and on the street, to be ridiculed, belittled and humiliated. Yet through all these experiences she did not lose her faith.
Starlight herself does not follow any organised religion but the pure path which leads straight to God and has neither dogma nor creed. Her teachings which were given to her by God for humanity are in essence no different from the teachings of Moses, Buddha or The Lord Jesus Christ himself, but are put in such a way as to breathe new life into them. These teachings, which she calls Divine Principles, are basically those of Compassion, Patience, Morality, Awareness, Respect for all Life and Divine Devotion and are fully explained in her book, Soul Journey: The Spirit of the Dove, which encompasses not just teachings but an explanation of why we should always act from right motive and how it affects us and the whole world if we do not. This book is suitable for everyone from all walks of life and all religious backgrounds irrespective of whether they want to try and understand themselves and the path a little more or wish to go the whole hog and become high spiritual beings. The book is structured in such a way as to suit both beginners and those who have made some headway or are quite advanced on the path. It contains meditation instructions and simple exercises to help us get to the root of our essential selves.
Starlight will do whatever she can to help you to progress whether it is sitting with you and teaching you meditation (called Divine Light meditation which can also be found in Soul Journey), on a one-to-one basis or sending you absent healing: She will travel almost anywhere to give treatment to those who are housebound or terminal or help them leave this world and guide them into the next if their time has come. Sometimes she is contacted by relatives of a suicide who believe that their beloved deceased is trapped in a hell realm or by people who have evil spirits in their home. Fighting the forces of darkness, even having to perform exorcisms, is a job that she is equal to as much of her spiritual training has been geared to dealing with those from the dark realms.
And yet for all this Starlight is very approachable. When you meet her you will see laughter in her eyes and no trace of a holier-than-thou attitude. This comes through even more in the three novels she has written (all awaiting publication) and an ebullience which bubbles up to the surface. At first meeting you may think she is no different from any other person but after a while one perceives her warmth, love, energy and power and it is this power that enables her to increase food, make any medicine from a bottle of water and in some cases, and with God's grace, to cure people instantly. Such abilities were a long time in the making but Starlight says, with her usual humbleness, that what she does is nothing special, that anyone can do this if they have perfect faith in God and are willing to follow the path.
Such a path is not for the feint hearted and should you decide to take it, Starlight will train you, yet, not surprisingly there are few takers. Starlight says that to do what she does one must want God at any price and to illustrate this point she recounts an old anecdote (she has a fund of these for every occasion), of a rich man’s son who approached a Sage sitting by a riverbank. Said the rich man’s son to the Sage,
‘Can you please teach me to find God?’
The Sage did not reply.
The rich man’s son repeated the question but still the Sage did not reply.
On the third repetition the Sage pushed the rich man’s son into the water and held his head under until the boy nearly drowned.
When the Sage finally released him, he said,
‘What did you want more than anything then?’
‘Air,’ said the rich man’s son.
Replied the Sage, ‘when you want God as much as you wanted air just then, come back and see me.’
Wanting to become one with God is not to be taken lightly and those who wish to tread this path must be prepared to face the worst.
Starlight says, ‘everyone is on the spiritual path, whether they know it or not. And everyone will eventually reach the ultimate level, union with God, but whether it takes one lifetime or a million is entirely up to them. If they want to get there quickly and take the short path to save them the pain of endless re-births, the opportunity is there.’
Meanwhile, those who don’t, can be assured of her unconditional love. To her it is not out of sight and out of mind and she will continue to think of you and send you her Light, long after you have left or the telephone conversation has ended. Be sure you will be in her thoughts at night.
